Kiltera Stones

The Kiltera Ogham Stones are situated roughly a mile from Villerstown in our Parish. Ogham writing was used to mark the spot of a great event or as a tombstone for an important person. There were three stones in Kiltera, two of which still remain. The third known as “Rituvvas” was removed to the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. While one of the stones has proved difficult to translate the other bears an inscription which when translated reads “Callabot son of Lug".
