New School

We will be building on to our school next year. The extension will be very big. There will be lots of builders and there will be scaffolding too. The builders will have a lot of work and there will probably be cranes, loaders, JCB's and tractors. There will be a huge roof and the builders will be laying blocks. They will be laying the floor aswell. There will be a lot of work going on and we hope it will be over in the summer. There will be a lot of people in the new school. They are building a new hall so if it is raining, we can do P.E in there. The wall in our classroom will be knocked down to make one big classroom. The new big school will be really good.

In October 2004, we received an invitation to link up with a school in America. The invitation arrived to us from an organisation called People to People International. The school is Spruce Elementary School, and it is in Seattle on the West Coast of America. Mr. de Burca's 1st and 2nd Class are working on several projects with Mrs. Walter's 2nd Grade. Here is an account of this venture from both sides of the Atlantic...

1st and 2nd class are "keypalling" with a class of children in America. Keypalling is like pen pals, but we communicate using the computer. This school is called Spruce elementary in Seattle, Washington, on the West coast of America.  Here is an account we sent them about Science Week. Robert is in charge of this group, and Michelle helped us to get it typed...

Last Tuesday the 8th of November we went to see a science show during Science Week. We went down to Waterford City on a mini bus and it was really packed. We were there at half past 10. We went to see a show about bubbles. All the lights were turned off so we could see the bubbles. The men doing the show asked a boy to stand in a circle and then he put a big bubble over him and he was inside the bubble. Their names were Mark and Barney. We had to blow a big bubble to see when it would pop. Mark and Barney put a teacher in a bubble and that was really funny. The bubbles are made from liquid and water and glycerol. It was really good fun and we want to go again next year. We had our lunch outside on the bench after the show and then we came back to school at half past 12. It was a really fun day.

The Witch

She comes by night

In fearsome flight

In garments black as pitch

The queen of doom upon her broom

The wild and wicked witch

A crackling crone

With brittle bones

And desicuted limbs

Two evileys with warts and sties

And bags about the rims

A dangling nose

Ten twisted toes

And folds of shriveled skin

Cracked and chipped and crackled lips

That frume a toothless grin

She hurtles by

She sweeps the sky

And hurls a piercing screech

As she swoops past

A spell is cast

On all her curses reach

Take care to hide

When the wild witch comes

Robert got this poem from a book called Ghosts and Witches.

 Jokes

How did dinosaurs pass exams? With extinction.

Why is the school football field always wet? Because the boys are always dribbling

When is a blue book not a blue book? When it is read.

Why are cooks mean? Because they beat the eggs and whip the cream

When is an English teacher like a judge? When he gives out sentences.

My Pet

I have a little pony

And Bob is his name.

I feed him lots of carrots

And brush his fluffy mane.

When he sees me coming,

He runs up to the gate.

He is white all over,

And he is my best mate.

He likes to run and jump around

And gallop very fast.

Sometimes he goes up to the trees

And goes zooming past.

Bob is my favourite pony

In a very special way.

The day we brought him home

Was a very nice day.

HALLOWEEN

Witches flying in the air,

With tangled long black dirty hair,

Evil cats sit on the broom,

Howling at the big full moon,

In the village down below,

The sound of the children's voice grow,

In the street they like to meet,

And off they go to trick or treat,

But the witches have a plan,

To catch some children if they can,

Into the cauldron bubbling hot,

In they go plop, plop, plop,

The witches made a big mistake,

When three tough boys

They try to take,

And banished them to a zombie tomb.
