SMALLPOX DISEASE

Smallpox is a disease that once killed millions. A virus spread from person to person though droplets from dairymaids sore when someone coughs or sneezes causes it. Many survivors were blinded or scarred for life. The disease was so common centuries ago that almost everyone caught it at the same time. In 1967 more soldiers died from smallpox than from fighting, and when European settlers carried the disease to North America, millions of Native American Indians died.

The Romans

In Romans legend, Romulus and his twin brother Ramos built Rome along the banks of the river Tiber. The Ancient Romans worshipped gods. Christians didn’t worship Roman gods and were often slain or forced to fight in shows for the poor called circuses. They could watch chariot races, men fighting lions or fights to the death between trained warriors called gladiators in the coliseum, a huge arena whose ruins can still be seen in Rome. The Romans were excellent, well-trained soldiers who conquered many countries, which then became part of the Roman Empire. They used huge catapults to hurl large boulders at the walls if cities they attacked. They built long straight roads so their armies could move quickly place to place. Romans roads have been unearthed here in Britain, where Julius Caesar, a famous Roman general and messenger, fought the Ancient Britons.

Christmas

Last Christmas my family and I went to the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney. My aunts and uncles on my dads’ side came with us. We saw Disney on Ice in the hotel. Everyday we had a very big breakfast. We stayed there for two weeks. On Christmas day we got up at seven o’clock, my dad woke us. For Christmas I got an art set, Westlife pyjamas and a playstation 2 game. On our way back we went to  the Aqua dome. There were three slides. One of the slides was on the outside. I went with my dad the first time and when I did I went too fast and I fell in the water first and my dad nearly fell on top of me.
