My name is Joe and I will be the editor for the month of March and April. I am 12 years old. My favourite hobbies are football, hurling and swimming. I have loads of pets: one dog, three goldfish and four cats. We also have a farm. My mam works as a teacher and my Dad works with the I.F.A. I have two brothers and one sister, James 15 Robert 9 and Claire 17.

Hello !!

This is my windmill. I made it at home. My dad helped me to make it. I used lollipop sticks, a cardboard box and some pieces of paper. It took a long time to make it. At art on Thursday in school I put a background on it.

I have two pets. They are both dogs. They are both sheepdogs. One is a girl and one is a boy. Their names are Rex and sally. Sally is four years old. Rex is about a year and a half. Rex is all black with white paws and Sally is black and white all over. Sally wears a muzzle. They both like to play football. They are friendly. Sometimes they eat the grass because feel sick. Sally got sick. They both sleep in the same house. They eat table scraps like chicken, bread, spuds and stuff like that. None of them like dog food.

If Sally doesn’t like the food we give her she covers it up with straw. They both like to dig up the grass. Rex will eat anything. He likes the tractor. If he’s inside and the tractor starts he starts barking. They both like to go down the road but they always come back. They are both really good friends.

I have a Connemara pony called Trigger. Trigger is five years old. I got him last summer. He is a light grey in colour. He is very cheeky but I still love him to bits. He stays at my uncles house. We go hunting every Sunday. We go for hacks with my cousin and his pony and jump loads of drains. I brush him every day I see him. He gets hay every night.

You can click on these pictures to make them bigger.

The puppet show last week was about the environment. It was funny. There was a monster in it called Rubbish Monster. One of them got hypnotised by the monster. He said “Must throw rubbish”. There was a man who had to clean up the rubbish. Every time he came out there was rubbish on the ground. One of the puppets was called Jimmy. He had a girlfriend called Serena. When they were sorting out the rubbish the Rubbish Monster got weaker, and he disappeared in the end. Everyone was happy.

We all went down to the hall to look at it. It was mostly for the smaller pupils. Eamonn’s mammy was recording it, and some of us took photographs.

Little tadpoles are wrapped in clear jelly. They grow in the jelly. When they have grown they push through the jelly and swim. Goldfish, sticklebacks and beetles chase the tadpoles. They wriggle worms in the water.

My Pet

Hi my name is Conor. I am 11 years old and my pets name is Marphy. He was in a litter of 9 dogs but sadly 2 died. We sold 5 of them and we still have 2. The other one is called Kizzy. I have been feeding them from the start. They are only about six months old now. Murphy in the picture above is bringing a pheasant.

My Dog

His name is Sam. He is a Jack Russell breed. That means that he is a small, cute dog and he is very intelligent too. Sam has two brown ears that pop up and down when he hears a sound. Even if I mention it to Tara that we will get some food he is standing beside us! We don’t even have to call his name. When he smells food cooking he stands beside the cooker. His tail sways over and back with excitement and it is only two inches long!

This is Hazen. I have Hazen on loan for a while. Hazen is twelve point two in height. She is light grey in colour. Hazen is easy to handle and brilliant to ride. She is good to wash, groom and tach up. I normally ride her in the field. I walk, trot, canker and jump for a half an hour. Sometimes I bring her for a walk on the road and canter in the cornfield. Hazen is good on the road and not scared of the cars. I feed her hay and horse nuts.

One day I was walking in the woods and I found a house. But then I ate a flower. Yum yum. It was chocolate. An old horrible lady said: Who’s nibbling at my house?” Then she dragged me into the house. She made me cook the dinner. I said I’m not your slave you smelly lazy woman. She was going to throw me in the pot. But I just jumped out of her arms. I’ll call my granny. She said: “I’ll never let you go you fool.”

I said well at least I’m not a horrible witch, and I threw her in the fire. I said lovely, and I ate all of the candy. I even ate the cooker. I was so sick. I stayed there every day. I called my family and they came. They brought all of the stuff in the house. We had such a good time after all. I wasn’t really trapped. Then I ate all of the flowers.

The St Patrick Project

St. Patrick the patron saint of Ireland is one of Christ’s widely known figures. His life remained somewhat of a mystery. Traditionally St. Patrick, was known to have banished all the snakes from Ireland but this  is probably false and due to years of exaggerated storytelling. St. Patrick was born in Britain to wealthy parents near the end of the fourth century. His father was a Christian deacon. At the age of 16, Patrick was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders who were attacking his family estate. They transported him to Ireland where he spent six years in captivity. During his time he shepherded sheep. He turned to his religion for solace, becoming a devout Christian.

He escaped to Britain and during his time there he experienced a revelation. An angel in a dream told him to return to Ireland as a missionary. His studies and ordination lasted 15 years. He returned to Ireland to preach to the Christians and to convert the Irish. He died on March the 17 around 460 A.D.

The Equinox

The nights get shorter and the days get longer. Yesterday they were the same. Yesterday was Tuesday. It was the 21st of March. It is called the equinox. There are 24 hours in one day. We have 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night. It is getting dark at about 7 o’clock or half 7.

On Saturday night we will be putting the clocks forward one hour. So next week it will be bright until half eight. We will be able to go outside to play after our dinner. This is called Summer Time. When the summer is over we will put the clocks back one hour. This is called Winter Time. We think summer Time is the best.

Saint Patrick

Patrick was born in Kilpatrick near Dumbarton in Scotland in the year 387. His parents were Calpurnis and Conchessa who were Romans living in Britain in charge of the colonies. As a boy of 16 or so he was captured and brought to Ireland to heard and tend for sheep. Ireland at the time was a land of Druids and pagans. During his captivity lasted until he was twenty. When he escaped he went to the cost. There he found some sailors who took him back to Britain were he was reunited with his family. He had a dream in which the people of Ireland were calling out to him to come and walk among us. He began his studies for the priesthood. He was ordained by St. Germanus the Bishop of Auxerre. Patrick arrived back in Ireland on the 27 433 and began preaching the Gospel throughout Ireland  and converting many. Patrick preached throughout Ireland for 40 years, until he died on March 17 461. He died at Saul where he built  his first church.

Patrick used the Shamrock to explain the trinity and the Shamrock is now associated white Saint Patrick and the Irish since that time.

Fiona did a PowerPoint about Kangaroos. Click here to look at it.

There are about 40 different species of smaller marsupials. Nearly all of the species eat plants. Most adult kangaroos grey and red can grow up to 6 feet in height and they can weigh up to about 100 pounds.

New Zealand

A faraway place I would like to visit is New Zealand because people are saying it’s a nice country. I like it because there are 06 cars and train tracks, yachts and aeroplanes. The Lord of the Rings was acted there. There are loads and loads of sheep there. There are massive mountains as well. The farms are massive.

My Nana’s Pet

My grandmother has a pet cat called Mitzi. It’s about 6 and a half human years which is 32 and a half cat years. When Mitzi was a kitten it was very playful. She has a toy mouse when you dangle the mouse above her She will try to catch it. She is black and white. She is a non-pedigree. She’s just known as a domestic cat. She likes to sleep on the chair in the corner. During the day she likes to roam around upstairs and lie down on the beds. When my Nana comes back with the shopping. Mitzi runs down the stairs when she hears the shopping bags. Because she knows there is a treat for her. She likes to walk in between the kitchen chairs. She She also likes to climb up the trees at the back. She will run upstairs if you stand on her tail. If you run past her she’ll start running behind you. She likes to eat dry cat food, chicken and tuna. She is a very playful cat. She also has baby blankets of her own to sleep on. Sometimes at dinner she will jump up on the table to try and eat your dinner.

George

George is one of the six dogs we have owned. George is a short white terrier 44cm tallIf you took him walking he would always stay with you, but if he sees or smells a rabbit or deer he would chase it until he lost the scent of the animal. Most of the times he would prick up his ear if he heard something. I found George in a stable at the back of the house, and I told Tess and Mum. We could not find his owner so we have kept him ever since.

Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick grew up in a Christian family in Wales. His father was a deacon and grandfather a priest. At the age of sixteen, he was carried away as a slave to Ireland. He was thrown into a guarded pen waiting to be sold. Miliuch, one of the chieftain Kings, bought him. Patrick’s job was to care for a flock of sheep owned by the king. Night and day he spent on the mountain. The sheep became his friends. He started talking to them. He also started talking to God, his grandfather had told him about. After six years on the mountain. He heard a voice. It told him his ship was ready. That night he fled. After a two hundred-mile trek he saw a ship. The voyage took three days. When it landed they saw no people. For a month they looked for food. The Pagan captain who had mocked Patrick’s faith said to him "You say your god is great and powerful then pray for us!” Suddenly pigs came across the road. Food at last! When he got home he realised it was not to be. He had a vision that told him to go back to Ireland. Thirty years he tramped the green land to see men and women and come to know the Christ he loved so much. By the time he died he had baptized thousands of people and founded hundreds of churches. He died on the seventeenth of March about 460 A.D.

What is the Sky?

The sky is a big blue and white blob,

the sky is an accident waiting to happen,

where all the spitfires that fell,

and what did they get nothing,

the sky is not a shape it’s just an accident.

Pippy

My pet is a black dog. Her name is Pippy. She likes going for walks with people. One day she got hit by a car while walking with my mother. We had to bring her to the vet. The vet told us that her leg was broken and she had to rest around for four weeks. Now she is careful on the road. My brother feeds her every night with her food. She is a watch dog, she barks when somebody comes to the house. Sometimes she hurts rabbits in the field near our house and unfortunately she likes chasing cows too.

Waders

Waders are very big birds. They are the biggest birds. They come from Norway and Iceland. They wade a round in shallow water. The female wader has longer bills than the male. They get the food and go to a puddle and wash the mud off it. The longest wader is the Curlew. The Curlew’s bill is decurved and the Avocel has an upcurved bill.

Dizzy

The name of my pet is Dizzy. He was a wild kitten. He became friendly when we kept feeding him. Dizzy had other brothers and sisters, but kept running away any time you come near them. He was Smokey grey and was about 19 cm. He was adventurous because he kept going away at night. He slept down in the shed in a cardboard box with a towel and a ball of string. But he was sick and ran away. He might be dead.  By Jason

What is the moon?

The moon is a big piece of cheese floating along the sky.

The moon is a blue beach ball kicked up high.

The moon is a golden coin flipped up high in the sky.

Sometimes the sun has to go to bed and we have to say good bye.

My Pets

I have two dogs there names are misty and Blacky. Blacky  is  a  stray when  we got her she was pregnant and she  had 7 babies. One died the others we gave away. We had Misty about 7 or 8 years. Blacky  can do some tricks like fetch and  shake hands. She loves footballs. You can't play with them because she’ll  take them off you. Misty's a golden and we think Blacky is a sheepdog. They  don‘t really like toys because if you gave him one they wouldn't touch them. They always run away in the morning when we go to school. Blacky waits at the gate to see when we're gone. Then they're gone and they’re always back we are  back.

Knockmaun Castle

The ruins of Knockmaun castle stand on top of a huge rock, one hundred and fifty feet high above the surrounding bog in the middle of the Decies-within-Drum Hills, situated about 4 miles from Dungarvan. It is beside what is now called the Bog Road. The Brickey River flows beside it. The river, with the bog all around it, as well as a moat and a drawbridge, made it a very strong castle indeed when it was first built. The thickness of the walls of the castle that now remain on top of the rock gives us a good idea of how strongly built it was before it was knocked down by Cromwell. It was built by the Osborne family who were Protestants and supporters of the king, and who were also landlords of the surrounding countryside. It was occupied by Sir Richard Osborne in the time of Cromwell. It was built by the Osborne family who were Protestants and supporters of the king and also landlords of the surrounding countryside. It was occupied by sir Richard Osborne in the time of Cromwell. While he was at Dungarvan Cromwell sent a detachment of his men of his troops to take over the castle at Knockmaun. Because Osborne was a supporter of the king, he was against Cromwell so for that reason he took it over. He also captured it because if it got in his enemy’s grasp it would be absolutely terrible for him. After a short time they reduced the castle to a few brick standing up. One story says that the castle was destroyed by a cannon ball on the road by Ballinameela church. But it is most unlikely because at that time a cannon ball would not travel that far. On the other side of the road are the ruins of a small church. An ogham stone was found in the lintel of the doorway of this church. Sir Richard Osborne is supposed to be buried there. Beside the church was a big tree. This tree was said to be the biggest in Ireland.
