Officially known as Whitechurch NS but known locally as Ballinameela NS, the original school was built in the 1870s with the present building constructed in 1956. In the beginning there were only two classrooms in the current school building and the old school continued to be used with senior classes upstairs and downstairs acting as a hall which could cater for films, drama, meetings and school gatherings. In the late 1960s a prefab was placed beside the present building and the old school was officially closed. In the 1970s an extra prefab was acquired due to the amalgamation of Killeshal NS with Whitechurch NS. In 1991 the school building was extended and two classrooms were added, the present day 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th classrooms, with the prefabs also being removed.

In 2005 the school was renovated and extended with the addition of a GP hall, and secretaries office. In 2007 a further classroom and SET room were added, leaving us with the school building in its current format.

We are very fortunate to have such wonderful resources at our disposal in Whitechurch NS. Thanks to a supportive local community we have use of the community pitch, sports hall and Astro-turf area whenever needed. We are fortunate to have up to date IT resources and a school library which allows our students to have a wide ranging overall educational experience. The children are given opportunities to learn many extra initiatives such as gymnastics, athletics, drama, G.A.A, modern foreign languages, Junior Entrepreneur, Green Schools awards and Science Foundation of Ireland awards.

We look forward to welcoming you to Whitechurch NS and seeing all it has to offer.
